How template ranking works

In the Framer Marketplace, ensuring users find the best templates easily is key to delivering a great experience. Our algorithm plays a vital role in this by dynamically calculating a score for each template, every day, based on user interactions.

Key metrics

The algorithm evaluates and scores templates based on the following user actions over a rolling 90-day period:

  1. Views — user views a template detail page

  2. Previews — user clicks the gray CTA button ("Preview") on a template detail page

  3. Conversions — user clicks the blue CTA button ("Use for Free" or "Purchase for $XX") on a template detail page

Score calculation

The weight given to each action is directly correlated to the users ultimate intent — Conversions hold the most weight, followed by Previews, and then Views. All three actions combine to define a Template's score and rank within the Popular feed.

Balancing Free and Paid templates

To ensure fairness, the algorithm also ensures that the Marketplace maintains a balanced mix of both free and paid templates. When users browse, they’ll always see an even distribution between the two types, allowing for a wide range of choices.
