Compromised sites in Google Ads

Compromised and circumventing sites are major issues in Google Ads. Compromised sites contain harmful content or redirects, while circumventing sites use tricks like cloaking or bypassing policies, which can lead to account suspensions.

Most common reason

We have registered the free Framer domains with the Public Suffix List. This essentially informs Google and other services that the subdomains of these domains are independent. For example, it ensures that yourdomain*.framer.website* isn’t penalized due to the existence of another.framer.website.

Since framer.website is registered in the Public Suffix List, two subdomains under this domain should not be treated as if they are owned by the same individual or entity.

We recommend using a custom domain to address this issue.

Common causes of suspension

  • Cloaking: Presenting different content to users than what is shown to Google’s review system.

  • Repeated Policy Violations: Continuously submitting ads that violate Google’s policies, even after previous disapprovals. Read more about Google’s ad policies here.

  • Misleading Content: Creating ads or using techniques intended to deceive users or Google's systems.

Other possible reasons and fixes

  • Make sure you have 404 page.

  • Make sure you have no links that redirect to http:// pages, or websites.

  • Use a tool like VirusTotal to scan your website and ensure it isn’t flagged for harmful content.

  • Make sure you don’t use or embed scripts from unreliable third-party tools.

  • If you have recently moved your website from another platform to Framer, ensure you have no dead links and you set up redirects for old URLs to new URLs.

  • Improve your ad quality by using relevant keywords across the website. This will increase quality score for the keywords you selected to run Google Ads. See how to improve it here.

  • Align your ad titles and descriptions with the content of the website. Misleading ads will be flagged by Google Ads, and they won’t be approved.

  • Make sure you don’t have any links that redirect users to prohibited sites.

  • Make sure you don’t have any reports about blocklisting in your Google Search Console.

  • If your ads are flagged and disapproved, try applying these suggestions instead of creating another account to advertise on the same website. Google review systems will recognize this, and your ads won’t run on the new account you created.

Steps to fix a disapproved ad or asset in Google ads

  1. Navigate to the Ads page under Campaigns or the Assets page under Assets to locate the ad or asset you want to fix.

  2. In the Status column, look for “Disapproved” or “Eligible (limited).”

  3. Hover over the status to view the policy violation details.

  4. Click Read the policy under the disapproval reason to learn more about how to resolve the issue.

  5. Click the pencil icon to edit your ad.

  6. Make the necessary changes to ensure the ad or asset complies with the policy.

  7. Click Save to apply your changes.

If these solutions don’t help, you can contact Google support directly from the Google Ads dashboard and ask for the links or scripts causing your ads to be disapproved.
